Sentis ‘Footy Colours Day’ Supports Children and Young People Diagnosed with Cancer

Oct 23, 2019

Last month Sentis employees took part in Footy Colours Day, donning their favourite footy jerseys to raise money for Fight Cancer Foundation’s education support program.

Every year, more than 950 children and young people aged 0-19 are diagnosed with cancer in Australia. In addition to the tremendous emotional impact on these children and their families, a cancer diagnosis can have an enormous impact on both their education and their social interactions.

Young learners with cancer are usually absent from school for long periods during treatment and recovery. As a result, they often become isolated from friends and learning. Many find it difficult to re-engage with their education, often dropping class levels on their return to school.

Fight Cancer Foundation’s national campaign Footy Colours Day raises money to support kids living with cancer, and each dollar raised helps them continue their education during treatment and recovery. This year, Sentis Principal Consultant Ben Carnell chose to support this fundraising opportunity as part of the company’s iMind initiative, combining his love of football with the charity close to his heart.

“Having personally seen the support that Fight Cancer Foundation provides during difficult times, I cannot speak more highly of them as an aid and the important role they provide for those facing the fight of their lives.”

Through a mixture of fundraising activities including an auction and BBQ lunch, Sentis raised more than $1,900 to help children and young people fighting cancer with the continuity of their education to ensure their reach their full educational, professional and vocational potential.

“It was fantastic to see the whole company involved, and everyone so keen to support kids facing the battle of their life. Cancer impacts upon kids more than we realise, and Fight Cancer Foundation’s work with them in this way is so very important to helping them with their fight. Every kid deserves this support.”

Fight Cancer Foundation has been helping to addressing the gap in educational support for kids and young people living with cancer since 2005. Today the programs operate in major pediatric hospitals in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia who treat and care for children from all over Australia. Learn more, show your support and help make sure cancer does not hold anyone back.
